A silent and majestic sentinel, Yaquina Head Light Station stands watch over offshore fishing boats, surfers, and nesting sea birds at Yaquina Head, Oregon.

The historic Yaquina Bay Lighthouse is believed to be the oldest building in Newport and is Oregon's last remaining wooden lighthouse.

Winds and rain have buffeted this lighthouse, Oregon’s tallest, since its beacon was first lit in 1873. Tens of thousands of sunsets later, its light still shines.

Yaquina Head's light, now automated, flashes its unique pattern 24 hours a day. The enormous Fresnel lens projects its light far out to sea.

Yaquina Head Lighthouse

Yaquina Head Light Station was built in 1872 and operated by the U.S. Lighthouse Board, afterward called the U.S. Lighthouse Service. The Lighthouse Service was abolished in 1939, at which time the U.S. Coast Guard took over operations. Learn more...
